Guess who is entering K101's "My Baby's Crazy Hair" contest? James, of course! Please vote for James on February 2nd! I'll be posting more information closer to the date!
Okay, James actually got his cast removed on December 23rd - but thanks to Christmas coming so quickly, family coming in from all directions, the stores all having huge sales before and after Christmas, and because James and I caught a cold, the blogging was put on a huge hold! Needless to say, you know what this means - at least 3 posts in one day!
Anyways, James got his cast removed on December 23rd and his hand looks fantastic! He now has exactly 10 fingers (and 10 toes!) and is quickly starting to learn how to use his right hand again. The first day was pretty hard for him though...he was in a cast so long that his arm was weak/sore and he couldn't even crawl right! Good thing he's learning how to walk by himself!
Happy Halloween! To celebrate his first Halloween, James wants to do a little trick for you all! (What a treat!)
Dan wants to remind everyone - "This was Katie's idea!" (but he went along with it!!! haha!)
I do not like hot weather. Very warm weather - not bad. But anything over 91 degrees is just wrong. I don't care what you midwesterners say about California having a dry heat and how humidity makes it hotter. You know what else can be compared to dry heat - an oven!!!
Anyways, it's finally cooled down a bit over here, but it's still pretty warm here in Cali. James decided to deal with the heat accordingly and not only opted to go through the days sans clothing (save a bib and a diaper), but he's also discovered the joys of "sharing" a Haagen Daaz with mom. Or dad. Or anyone else who is eating ice cream:
Guess who's learning new tricks to scare/amaze mom and dad with recently? I won't name names, but here's a video of the suspect in action:
"Look out, Kat's got a case of latex fever - she got bit by the latex bug!!"
I am so ballooned out! Last week, Dan, James, and I all drove down to So. Cal to attend two balloon conferences, Diamond Jam and Balloon Camp. We were also invited to perform for Balloon Camp, so it wasn't just a vacation - it was a working one! (Although, I bet my work conferences are a lot more fun than most people's work conferences...!)
Our week started out with Diamond Jam - a primarily twisters conference. This was my first twisters convention and boy - talk about being inspired!! I was lucky enough to be able to take classes from some of the world's best twisters, including from Ed Chee, Rie Hosokai, Ori Livney, Ralph Dewey, and Robbie Furman (just to name a few!!!). I also got to jam with some of the best, as well as make a lot of new friends!
Because it was my first balloon convention, I decided not to enter any major competitions just so I could see what these competitions are like. I did, however, enter a few minor competitions, and actually won 2nd place in a Halloween twister competition, and 1st place in a 40 minute endurance competition (you have to use three of every type of balloon in the jam room, including 160s, 260s, 350s, geos, hearts, 640s..etc and create it into a wearable hat). I think next year I'll enter into the "big boy" leagues!
For those of you who are curious - here are some of the competition pieces, including the winner! I think I still have a little ways to go...
It's been a little over a month since I last blogged about Elimination Communication, AKA "Kat's Quest to Get James Out of Diapers". Well, I can't say that James is out of diapers yet, but I can say that I only see a poopy diaper once a week (if at all!), James has woken up with a dry diaper on several occasions, and my favorite - he's even had days where I had to change his diaper due to wetness only once!!! Talk about a breakthrough!!!
I haven't seen a whole lot of crappy diapers lately...Dan and I have been working with James so much that I think he's really realizing that having a crappy diaper is well...crappy. Even my parents have been seeing less dirty diapers. James had a few accidents (mainly due to our work schedule), but overall has been doing so great - I'm really proud of him!
Having the Little Red Potty is really nice, also. Because he can sit up by himself, James can sit on the potty while I'm brushing my teeth in the morning. He really knows what to do while sitting on there - very rarely will I put him on the pooper without getting some kind of deposit! While I'm not thrilled to clean it out, it definitely beats wiping the crap off him - at least I don't have to touch any of that stuff!!!
Our goal is still the same: let's hope James will be out of diapers by 1 year old!
