At the SF Giant's Fanfest, fans had the opportunity to take a self-guided tour that provided voyeuristic peeks of the workout room, batting cages, and clubhouse, and even allows fans to have a seat in the dugout.
Giants players were at hand to sign autographs and take pictures and also took part in a question and answer session. For the kids, there were four fantastic face painters, and three great balloon artists (one being Kat the Acrobat, of course!).
It was a lot of fun getting to work upstairs doing balloons for all the kids - I hope I get the opportunity to do this event again next year!
This is probably the funniest ad I've seen for a condom - either that or I'm biased because I'm a balloon twister. Either way, not going to post the video clip on my blog - but here's the link if you're interested! It even includes a few outtakes!
FYI - it's probably ok to sneak-watch at work, although it's definitely not for kids. Turn down your sound either way, unless you don't mind the squeaking of balloons!
A picture says a thousand words - so I'll let the pictures do the talking this time. Here's a little background though, just in case you're interested in knowing a little more:
- All the fashions are created using balloons - the only "real" clothing each model is wearing are their shoes. Even the jewelry is created using only balloons.
- Each outfit was made with a model's measurements in mind. These are custom made outfits.
- Each outfit took hours to make - some took a day to create...some more!
- The designers ranged from amateur balloon artists to world's best. Designers came from all over the world, including the US, Japan, Israel, and the UK - just to name a few).
- One of the outfits Dan got to model later - now you can see it in it's full glory!
And now - the 2008 Balloon Couture Fashion Show Highlights!
"Look out, Kat's got a case of latex fever - she got bit by the latex bug!!"
I am so ballooned out! Last week, Dan, James, and I all drove down to So. Cal to attend two balloon conferences, Diamond Jam and Balloon Camp. We were also invited to perform for Balloon Camp, so it wasn't just a vacation - it was a working one! (Although, I bet my work conferences are a lot more fun than most people's work conferences...!)
Our week started out with Diamond Jam - a primarily twisters conference. This was my first twisters convention and boy - talk about being inspired!! I was lucky enough to be able to take classes from some of the world's best twisters, including from Ed Chee, Rie Hosokai, Ori Livney, Ralph Dewey, and Robbie Furman (just to name a few!!!). I also got to jam with some of the best, as well as make a lot of new friends!
Because it was my first balloon convention, I decided not to enter any major competitions just so I could see what these competitions are like. I did, however, enter a few minor competitions, and actually won 2nd place in a Halloween twister competition, and 1st place in a 40 minute endurance competition (you have to use three of every type of balloon in the jam room, including 160s, 260s, 350s, geos, hearts, 640s..etc and create it into a wearable hat). I think next year I'll enter into the "big boy" leagues!
For those of you who are curious - here are some of the competition pieces, including the winner! I think I still have a little ways to go...
