Last Wednesday, we decided to stop by Monterey for plenty of fun, sun, and fish! Our first stop was on Cannery Row for some lunch, souvenirs, and sightseeing.
In lieu of the Joseph Schmit chocolate line being discontinued, Dan and I figured we had to find a local chocolate replacement, pronto! Luckily for us, the San Francisco Chronicle recently had an article featuring a tour of Charles Chocolate, an artisanal chocolate factory (the only one in the country!). Surprisingly, Charles Chocolate is based in Emeryville, the same city as the now defunct Scharffen Berger Chocolate Factory was located.
You can tour Charles Chocolates on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 11:30 AM and 2:30 PM for free! (Anyone can view the chocolate factory without the tour during normal business hours.) If you have a chance, check out the factory at 6529 Hollis Street in Emeryville - it's a quick tour and a lot of fun!
