For my 30th birthday, Dan gave me one of the most unique and thoughtful gifts I've ever received: an Illusionist locket.
For those of you who are not familiar with the Illusionist locket or the movie, The Illusionist tells the story of Eisenheim, a magician in turn of the century Vienna, who uses his abilities to secure the love of a woman far above his social standing. There is a scene in the movie where Eisenheim gives his sweetheart a locket that is shaped like an oval. With a single twist, the locket is then heart shaped. Upon opening this heart, a small photo of Eisenheim was revealed, with no folds, tears, or scratches visible.
The Illusionist locket that Dan presented to me is very similar to the movie locket; it starts as an oval, with a single twist it turns into a heart, and the photo enclosed does not have any tears, splits, or folds. The locket I received is very unique as it doesn't hold just one photo - it holds two different photos! What a completely fitting gift from my magician! A magic trick that reminds me of Dan, and two photos enclosed within it - one of James and one of Grace!
For those collectors out there, there is a copy of Ricky Jay's Cards as Weapons available on eBay for $100 (well, at least the starting bid). It's such a collector's item, even this magician was considering getting it (as opposed to the $800 version on the buy it now circuit!)
It's amazing how things become collector's items. I blogged a long time ago about how I scored a Silver Plated Sony Walkman (a special Tiffany's edition) when Sharper Image was cleaning out it's "junk". I wonder how much it would go for if I put it on eBay...?
That's right! Dan is in the FINAL 6! Winners will receive a day long experience with Cirque du Soleil during one (1) Bay Area performance of KOOZA. Prize also includes two (2) Tapis Rouge tickets to see one (1) Bay Area performance of KOOZA.

On any given day, my DH can usually be seen doing following:
Juggling: The DH loves to juggle any moment he can. He'll juggle in the morning, in the gym, on the grass, in our apartment (much to the chagrin of our neighbors downstairs when he drops), over the bed when I'm sleeping...he is constantly practicing juggling.
Eating: He's a guy, he has eat, ya know. This prime rib is 40 ounces of heart attack on a plate!
Now where am I going with this, you ask? The other day, I
Big Mistake. Huge!
Not only does Dan enjoy Vox, he stayed on it all yesterday night AND all this morning, fixing up his banner, looking through photos to post, writing up little blogs on the China Trip we took last November. I was shocked because this is coming from a guy who absolutely hates to write and who originally thought blogging was only "okay, but kinda a waste of time". I swear, I don't know how I did it, but I converted him!
I would be fine and dandy with this normally, but then the realization sunk in...we have only ONE laptop in the house and TWO bloggers! Needless to say, I spent a good chunk of yesterday reading and cooking (that was one good lamb curry and rice for lunch, and an even better Italian Chicken and pasta for dinner!). *sigh* Booted off my own laptop....how humiliating! As there is only one computer in our house, we also jockey to get on, and stay on, the computer. You get up for a bathroom break, you've officially surrendered your seat at the computer. You can only imagine how long one can "hold it"...yikes.
So, I've added him to my neighborhood. You can see his grand masterpiece on his brand spankin' new Vox Blog, www.danchanmagic.vox.com. By the way - that banner - I made it in Photoshop a while ago...he just resized the thing and took the credit! What a punk! :)
Okay...I admit it and I'm totally guilty of neglecting to put up at least one photo of the DH. Whatever happened to the days when prices were reasonable, politicians were noble, and wives posted photos and more than just a passing blurb about their husbands on their blogs? :) For shame, me. Ah well, I'm over it.
So here's a picture of the DH - no birdies were harmed in this production!
And here's a picture with Dan and some his juggling equipment - yes, he can juggle two diablos at one time, 5 balls at once, and he juggles knives. Heaven help me when we have kids....*sigh* (Moooommmm! Dad poked me with a sword again!)
And here's a picture of Dan and his support team in the show...bwahahahahaha! Yes! My teeny little chicken arms CAN hold 160 lbs of San Francisco Magician goodness!
I'll post more about the whole magic/juggling/acrobatics speil in the future...we got about 60 library shows coming up this summer, so I can guarantee you'll see me put some funny stuff about our work eventually. :)
